IWCN X HOPSTERS ARTIST IN RESIDENCE: Smith

Smith Steam Punk Inception May 01-31

Featuring industrial foundry moulds, Smith’s exhibition highlights the great pleasure to explore what’s possible in the quest to give new life to precious items. It merges the conspicuous quest, the excitement on the acquisition and study of the items to unravel the nuance for an upcycled  exciting future.

Grounded in community skill sharing and trial and error, Smith acquired upcycling skills that converged with their past Animal Conservation career to aim for the acknowledgement of the soul on all the components of the Earth. Under this premise, Smith honours the items history, quality, style, endurance and era.

Steam Punk Inception all-timber structures were used to create casting patterns in sand, in which cavities would be filled with molten metal in the mid-twentieth century. Salvaged from aviation workshops in Mascot or the old railway repair shops in Redfern, the items now have a new life as a displayed upcycled aspiration.
