September Meet Up with Leonard Smith

This event is part of the Inner West Creative Network Provocation Series—an ongoing exploration of what it means to live and work creatively in our local context.
Spring brings new energy—and what better way to celebrate than by gathering with fellow creatives in a place of joy, conversation, and connection?
The IWCN Spring Meet-Up is a chance to share space, swap stories, and spark ideas. Whether you're deep in your practice or just finding your way back, come and reconnect with the creative community that makes the Inner West thrive.
This month, our Provocation dives into the heart of creative place, people, and practice with beloved ceramicist and educator Leonard Smith. From selling pots out of a Combi van to pioneering sustainable ceramic practices across the globe, Leonard’s journey is a testament to sustaining not just a creative career, but a creative life.
He’ll share reflections on how to keep an even keel in an unpredictable world, what it means to nurture the next generation of artists, and how craft—done slowly, thoughtfully, and in connection with community and environment—can shape a more sustainable future.
Expect warm wisdom, a few laughs, and the kind of insight that only comes from someone who’s spent a lifetime making, teaching, and staying true to their values.
Why Come Along? Hear from one of Australia’s most grounded and generous makers; Gather with creative peers over a locally brewed beverage; Feed your practice with ideas, conversation, and connection; Be reminded that the journey is long—but it can be joyful
Let’s make this spring a time of creativity, collaboration, and conversations that matter.
