About Clarita Derwent
Clarita's musical journey began at a young age, as she studied classical violin, piano, ballet, and classical voice. Clarita furthered her studies in Musical Theatre and Jazz singing, and danced with Kinetic Energy Dance Company before embarking on a trip to India at 19 to study Indian classical singing. During subsequent years in Mexico & Central America, she practised the music and dance of Latin America, combining her two passions - performing and travelling.
For over three decades, Clarita has immersed herself in the musical cultures of the region, particularly Cuba. She studied dance with Cutumba Folklorico Dance Company, one of Cuba's oldest and most respected ensembles.
