As a multi award-winning jeweller with 40 years of professional industry experience, I have been designing and making my own unique style of contemporary fine jewellery since the late 70’s.

My jewellery has been exhibited and collected extensively across Australia and overseas.

In 1985 I established my first business and in 1989, I travelled to various artistic communities overseas and returned to Australia with new inspiration for the designing and making of my jewellery.

I became a Fellow of the Gold and Silversmiths Guild of Australia In 1991. This is the only Jewellery organisation in Australia to recognise a standard of proficiency. Each member or Fellow has their own Makers Stamp and can use the guild Hallmark on their jewellery, a mark of Quality Craftsmanship.

During this time I developed my first collection, and established my first studio / gallery in Balmain. This period encompassed 10 years of exhibiting my work around Australia and Asia and representing up to 50 different artists in my Gallery. I immersed myself in aspects of the arts from painting, sculpture, ceramics to printmaking.

In 2004 I established my studio, Lucas Blacker Jewellery and since then have concentrated on design, individual craftsmanship and the relationship with my clients.

This has led me to study hand engraving and becoming a specialist in wax carving as well as developing a whole new skill base and direction in design development.

In 2021 I wanted to get back into my local creative community and opened my current studio / gallery, Black Cicada Studio. The gallery is an eclectic peaceful creative space that I have combined with my jewellery studio, where we have hosted small exhibitions and workshops through our collaborations with local artists.
