About Felix Oppen
Felix trained first as a scientist then as communication designer at the Billy Blue College of Design and later obtaining a Master of Design in 2007 from UTS. His primary interest was in typography. During this time he also developed an interest in photography, studying first at Sydney Photographic Workshops then with additional courses at the Australian Centre for Photography, with Gordon Undy at Point Light and with Hamish Ta Me through WEA. He has worked as a court clerk, a bartender, a graphic designer and as a lecturer in design. He was editor and founder of the award-winning magazine devoted to all things design, and co-author of a graphic design textbook.
After a thirty year career as a communication designer, and with the opening of Tiliqua Tiliqua - of which he is cofounder with Kate Riley, he transitioned away from client driven creativity into self-directed artistic expression. His practice draws upon a passion for typography, photography, letterpress, relief printing (lino & woodblock). he is attempting to form these elements into a unified art practice.
