About Lindy Smith
I've had a rich and varied creative career. My first loves were embroidery, sewing, knitting and crocheting as a child. Then in the late sixties I enrolled in a pottery course in our local evening college which later became a vocation and would dominate my life for almost 40 years.
In 1989 I obtained a BA from Sydney College of the Arts, became a studio potter and a member of the Inner City Clayworkers selling my work there and also across several galleries. My ceramic work is in private hands around the world including China, Japan, UK, USA and Australia.
Gradually, textiles started insinuating themselves into my life after I joined a textile group called ATASDA (Australian Textile Art and Surface Design Association).
I've been a textile artist now for over 10 years making nuno felted scarves and garments and also making beaded jewellery and doing some stitching. In 2019 I won the Margaret Oppen Prize for Contemporary Embroidery. I am also making a return to painting after a long break.
