Professional Objective

Tracey Wigg is a ceramic artist and sculptor who works under the studio name of TWIGG Ceramics. She made her first pinch pot more than eight years ago at Bakehouse Studio in Marrickville, and has been playing with clay ever since.  After a lifetime working in journalism, communications, and more recently as a freelance writer, she now also spends much of her time in her new backyard studio in Dulwich Hill.

The inspiration for her work comes from her passion for food and the voluptuousness of nature. Her work has been described as a sculptural exaggeration of the natural world.

According to Wigg, she loves the shape, colour and texture of fruit and vegetables such as pears, pomegranates and lemons. “l love the stories they tell, their place in tradition, and how their clay-forms feel in my hands as their spirits emerge from the clay.” Even her spirit birds have a pear-like presence.

Wigg takes every opportunity at her exhibitions to speak to people about her work, and hear about the emotions that it evokes in others.

She has exhibited and sold her work at the prestigious Sculptures in the Garden in Mudgee, Sydney Street Gallery, Marrickville and Gallery LNL in Newtown as well as selected curated retailers.

Artistic materials:

Tracey describes herself as a ceramic artist and sculptor. She works with different types of commercial clay, preferring local Australian clay rather than imported. At present Tracey uses a combination of commercial glazes and underglazes to finish her work. She is currently investigating a variety of locally manufactured glazes rather than the increasingly expensive imported brands from the US. Tracey often also uses recycled metal such as rusty nails and wire to compliment her sculptural forms.
